"Daffney’s training makes birthdays seem like time-defying events."

Working out with Daffney has given me confidence in my ability to push my limits physically and to try new things. I no longer doubt myself, and when I miss a goal, it only motivates me to work harder. I've trained with Daffney for several years. She has high but reasonable expectations, and she helps clients identify and work towards their individual goals. She also recognizes that sometimes life gets in the way, and when it does, she is understanding and supportive.  And perhaps most important, she cares about her clients. This is evident in the thought she puts into planning the workouts and the texts she sends to check in when she knows a client is having a rough day.

From Chronic Pain to First Half Marathon
Bob, 57, DC Law Partner, 50lbs lost

To say working out with Daffney was life changing doesn’t do her training abilities justice.  Daffney took an overweight and out of shape professional desk jockey, with two bad knees and a bad lower back, and now, 50 pounds lighter, has me running half marathons at a pretty good clip, (and looking to go for longer distances), and lifting heavier weights than I ever could before.  After 30+ years of getting in and falling back out of shape for various reasons, Daffney is the one trainer who completely changed my workout habits, changed my eating habits, and eliminated my tendency to use excuses that were holding me back from achieving the fitness goals that lived deep inside me.  Without being preachy or judgmental, Daffney goes the extra mile to educate you not only about working out efficiently and using proper form, but also as to how your eating (and other) habits affect your performance both inside and outside the gym.  She takes the time to get to know you, your lifestyle, and your specific physical issues, and then carefully tailors a personal exercise and total fitness program to meet both your physical and psychological needs, all while keeping you thoroughly entertained throughout your workouts.  Again, the term “life changing” simply doesn’t do her personal training abilities justice.

Training & Physical Therapy for the Whole Family
David, 55,  PhD, DC Law Partner, Black Top Warrior Cyclist
Our family has benefited from a broad exposure of trainers and coaches over the years, from having a parent who played varsity sports in college, to children who are either doing the same or might do so in the future.  Daffney is unique in that she has the breadth of skills, experience, and training to spot and take on a weakness or injury and integrate it into a holistic approach.  Her training goes from the extremes of occupational therapy through to nutrition with a knowledge base to discriminate between hot trends and useful developments. For one of us, she took on a recurring injury and developed a plan to strengthen the athlete in ways that allowed for participation throughout the entirety of the season, year after year.  For another, she identified flexibility issues that were the result of earlier injuries or lack of use.  One of her strengths is to identify issues and develop realistic approaches to them.   Another underappreciated skill is her seamless ability to relate across personalities, genders, goals and, of course, ages.
Confidence & Motivation
Jennifer, 39, Commercial Firm Designer, Former Weight Watchers Champion turned Self-Champion
To train with Daffney is tough.  She put up a mirror and I’ve gotten to know myself better because of our sessions.  It’s hard to develop and know myself deeper and why I do the things I do.  The behavior component is huge and I recognize that now.  I have more self confidence and better awareness of myself and I’m more mindful of my behaviors, both mental and physical...and emotional, too!  I’ve made better choices because she has been part of team JKirby and is also a friend. I’ve trained with a lot of different trainers but never one quite like her.  She pushes me, understands me, motivates me and is a friend, too.  I’m so happy I met Daffney and that I’ve had the privilege of our relationship for the last five plus years.

"Training with Daffney is not just a physical experience, but a mental respite.  She deftly trains the body and mind with an athletic and intellectual manner."
